I'll keep on trucking on my machine... Someday soon I'm going to get an i-pod and keep it in a pocket and work on it whenever I have free time. Talking, visiting, viewing, listening, poding, blogging, reading, singing....whatever!

I know I'll join one or two later. Between music and librarians, there's a ton to talk about. Right now I have to start a website for a private non-profit group of teachers & retired teachers. I think I'll use TeacherWeb. If anyone knows anything about it, please comment. I can use all the help ---hope available.

Facebook is great with your friends. I can see both the friendliness and danger. MySpace has a great frontend with clear hookups to everything and everybody. I loved the YouTube of the Library of Congress. as they say....Log on and let the journey begin.

My groups would include music and education. Fishing and Boundary Waters if they exist. I know I would like to have all kinds of ClassB motorhome friends to share experiences.

Every library could have a frontpage on MySpace? (comment needed!) Every one I tapped seemed oriented toward teens. I have a friend on Facebook that made that comment almost immediately when we talked via ye ole telephone.

Love everything live. Now if I could hook up a Boze speaker that would be the ultimate. My choices are MPR's Classical Notes and Carnegie Hall's Sound Insights.

Streaming media, in image and sound, will give you the world. Great if you have the time and inclination. Background music is wonderful.

You can experience anything anywhere!!!!

These tools are great for research and we'd be in the dark ages if they didn't exist, but stability is needed in offering them. From the posts at 23... about this, not much works. Fortunately the databases inside ELM do work well and are dependable. These are one of the first places patrons and students must go to start their research for any project. Hopefully every publication will be accessible in every library someday.

Well, here's my video....

My husband and I visited Jamestown and I read Dr. Kelso's 2nd book about the exploration of the newly-found fort. (He's working on a 3rd!) He came down to the dig to examine some part of a find while we were there. It would have been interesting to talk with him as they did here...
I love YouTube, but everyone has to remember "what they are doing will be shown and heard! Great for special programming and intriguing library commercials.

Both of these have a ton of info and helps, giving the foundation processes for learning, processing, presenting, and evaluating. The Research Project Calculator has options for end products and "all on one screen links" that give the user more choices. Discussion, speech, or multi-media presentations could be added. All are valid schemes in today's world.

Librarians and teachers alike need to "assign" to everyone about these sites, so we don't re-invent the wheel. I wonder if it's a part of the "second life island"?

What fun! The main issue with this is the fun vs. time to do everything else in the world. The players do exist along with all the tech people behind the scenes. I don't think the gaming world is a major player in the libraries, but it's similar to old "boardgame nights"; a major portion of some of our patron's lives.

The library island is a fantastic place built for the tech participants and provides a great service, but also looks like it takes a ton of time to administer and supervise. Only special libraries can afford the expert staff or "student help" and all the parameters that can work this.

How exciting! Booklists here I come! Friendlier than I would ever imagine. This will be my place for titles, booktalk etc. Sharing titles is the best way to find your reading and widen your world. Now to tweak it into my blog and enter the world of lit.

News, happenings, "best of" of the day is here at your fingertips. The worry is the "social mode," the selection and control. The perk -- so much for the viewing. just a click away. The trick also is to determine the source and all the time you need.

Newsvine & Mixx are my choices. I like the news and straightforward titles. But MPR had an announcement about a Long-Island-size Antarctica chunk falls off that didn't show up on the these this a.m. I guess the radio for immediacy and local papers for "within the realm" news are my first sources of info.

It seems as though you and your internet would "run/help" your life. I can see why newspapers feel threatened. I resist having everything in front of me when I log into my computer, but should change! (The trick would keep internet on your body forever to really have these tools as your daily life!) If I did a homepage, I would consider Google--1st, Yahoo--2. I'm a visual person and the ease of graphics and what was shown on Google is tempting.

The productivity lists are fabulous. As a school media specialist Top 25 Web 2.0 Apps to Improve a Student's or Professor's is really the ultimate.

This would be "my place" to work and share. It's so easy. The library wikis are great! A great place to update information for users and share topic areas. Any type of club could really have a sharing-base. It's amazing how much thorough the corporate tech world is in offering all/any option you can think of. You have to love wikipedia for info, knowing that it's potluck info--offerings with all kinds of flavors.

Tried a letter (image) on Zoho Writer. Complicated, but learned from it. I know a writer/collaborator who has never met his partner. They've published at least one book together, if not more. Team for a project would be a breeze with either service. I like Zoho Writer at this time; the commands are so simple and friendly...but need to check further.
Google Docs would be my choice. I need a place to share mtg. min. and this would be a great tool for the president of our group and myself. The testimonials in both sites -- terrific.

The trick is to be intelligent and savy about what you need. Time, patience, independent investigation and help from the right people--librarians and technology "teaching" experts. Unfortunately $$$ pushes the momentum. Need and consideration for others are backforces.

This "23" pushes the envelope. The World is Flat!!!

Every library needs to offer as much instant-messaging and online face-to-face communication as it can afford and the community demands. No one needs to be isolated.

Managing news RSS #3

Remember those old internet discussion groups; then the digests to sort all the messages? If you want to be informed (past MPR--in MN) about everything in the world including library news, RSS would be the way to go so far. (I wonder where the newspapers are going to end up). I'm going back to old times spending an excess of time reading interesting, (but useful?) news with my laptop and at work. "Time" is the nemesis of all of this. Forcing the issue by making it a community endeavor probably is the ticket to accomplishing all of this. Libbug is forging ahead...

Library 2.0, Web 2.0, and the future of libraries. #2

We can do it! -jumping into the technology, sharing ideas, proposals, and projects with all "ages" of librarians and techies. I think the age of knowledge is upon us with a world-wide scope. Libraries are based in knowledge contents. Organizing it, accessing it, sharing it, and spreading it is our mandate. With leaders and time (streamlining and prioritizing are in order) every library will rise to the summit.

Technology will always be charging forward. This is an excellent way to fudge around some areas that make take off with everyone.

I'm interested in uses and previews of the future. I remember a MEMO presentation with Joel Barker (http://www.joelbarker.com) that sent everyone into orbit.

Maybe that's where we'll be when we're done with this... Comments?
